Root Cellaring: Natural Cold Storage of Fruits and Vegetables by Mike Bubel and Nancy Bubel
Root Cellaring: Natural Cold Storage of Fruits and Vegetables

june90w, December 13, 2009

I bought a copy of Root Cellaring when it was first published. My husband and I had polished our fruit and vegetable growing techniques enough to be worried about winter storage. We knew nothing. The book was soon full of book marks, its pages dog-eared and penciled. It covered everything. Following the Bubels’ guidelines, we dug a root cellar under the front porch, creating a basement entrance by removing cement blocks from the house foundation. Within the basement, we built a fruit cellar…also just right for winter squash and potatoes, at different heights. Both served us well. Now, I am alone in another state and in totally different circumstances. I had left Root Cellaring behind, certain I would never need it again. I was wrong. I am ordering another copy. Nothing else will do.
