Nine Lives is an amazing tribute to New Orleans. The nine people who stories unfold in the book represent the range of uptown, downtown, black and white, rich and poor. It's a love story for the city and the most poignant description of Katrina and the aftermath.
Baum has captured the city through the voices of these amazing and vibrant true New Orleans characters.
I couldn't put it down until I knew what happened to every one in the book.

A great read for foodies or anyone interested in why people choose their life paths. This book gives real insight into how some of the greatest chefs developed or discovered their passion for cooking. These chefs are also good writers and story tellers.

I'm haunted by this book, which I first read more than 20 years ago. Often painful and difficult to read, it tells us the truth about our society through imagining a dystopian world in the near future. A future that seems much nearer now than 20 years ago, by the way.
Lessing uses beautiful imagery and well-drawn characters to show us the often all-too-painful truth of ourselves. She deserves that Nobel Prize!

Chris Rose gives voice to the voiceless and powerless city and her people devastated by Hurricane Katrina. This collection of columns is a love song to a city that comes palpably alive through his words. By turns hearbreaking and uplifting, it is required reading for anyone who loves New Orleans.
