The Mayor of Casterbridge (Dover Thrift Editions) by Thomas Hardy
The Mayor of Casterbridge (Dover Thrift Editions)

kellybobelly, July 21, 2009

Personally, I do not prefer Victorian novels - I dread the "Jerry Springer" conflicts and the ever so exaggerated wordiness. But the Mayor of Casterbridge is the best of it's genre. It is a very long novel: there are plenty of unnecessary details that seems like Hardy only used them for authentic purposes. But underneath these endless lists of details, there is a plot that will keep you turning the page - even if it takes 2 minutes. If you need to read a Victorian novel, this comes highly recommended, but if you prefer simplistic details that get the point across, unfortunately, then any Victorian novel is not for you.

In Cold Blood: A True Account of a Multiple Murder and Its Consequences by Truman Capote
In Cold Blood: A True Account of a Multiple Murder and Its Consequences

kellybobelly, July 8, 2009

I read this novel in 3 days straight, I could not put it down. Capote's intense descriptions that are in 3rd person are so detailed and strong, it's as if it has all the emotion of a 1st person novel. I highly recommend this novel, not just for school reports, but also for a way to occupy your mind. But be warned, once you start, you won't stop.
