A Long Walk to Water by Linda Sue Park
A Long Walk to Water

This story had me riveted from cover to cover. It tells two parallel stories -- Salva, a Sudanese boy torn from his family as war rages in his country. We follow his journey to Ethiopia, eventually Kenya, and beyond, as he experiences terrible losses and tragic living conditions. As we follow his true story, we also meet Nya, a Sudanese girl whose family must daily deal with the problems that stem from having no easy access to clean water. By the end of the story, the reader has experienced the many triumphs and disappoints of Salva and Nya's lives.
Through all the tragedy, there is much hope to be found in A Long Walk to Water. It is a gripping motivational read.
