The 100: A Ranking of the Most Influential Persons in History by Michael H Hart
The 100: A Ranking of the Most Influential Persons in History

khalid, October 3, 2006

A well researched book, listing a galaxy of personalities from history, though over whelming majority from the Christian west. What is missing from the list I think are few important names like Ibn Sina (Avicenna), Ibn Rushd (Averroes), Omar Khayyam, Imam Ghazzali, these are people who have influenced many listed in this book.

The listing of prophet Muhammad (pbuh) on top of the list has not come as a great surprise to me.
About Prophet Muhammad (pbuh), Allah says in the holy Qur?an

(94:4) And exalted for you your esteem?

This was said at a time when no one could even conceive how the esteem of the one unique individual who had only a few followers confined only to the city of Makkah, would be exalted throughout the world, and what high fame he would achieve. But Allah Almighty gave His Messenger (upon whom be peace) this good news under those very conditions and then fulfilled it in a strange way.

Today, apart from muslims many non-muslims like George Bernard Shaw, Professor R Rao, Thomas Carlyle, Monygomery Watt, Edward Gibbon etc all have acknowledged the greatness of prophet Muhammd (pbuh).
