I love the thoroughness with which ingredients and cooking methods have been investigated. I feel like any recipe I care to tackle will turn out well so long as I follow the directions. Sometimes I need foolproof to make up for my recipe-free experiments.
I find it so easy to immerse myself in the world that Michael Connelly has created. His writing creates a clear picture for me and I think about the characters even when I'm not reading the story.

Michael Crichton's novels never disappoint and can be read over and over without boredom - which is good, because he is and will be much missed. State of Fear is a finely crafted novel, relevant and intriguing, especially within the context of today's news.

The Stand is one of my all-time favorite books and it could be studied as one of the finest novels by American authors. Truly one of the best examples of character development and growth, The Stand brought so much to life that I always felt transported to another place and time. While definitely a long book, the time invested is not wasted - it is an epic masterpiece.

As a long time Stephen King fan (Salem's Lot), I was disappointed by Cell. I appreciated the characters, but the situations and resolution of the story left me wishing I had skipped this one. I almost find it hard to believe that he really authored this one.
