Leni Zumas's writing crackles. Her books are sharp, bleak, funny, and possibly dangerous. When her collection of short stories, Farewell Navigator,...

This is a great book. I have six cats and 3 dogs. It's like having nine children. I talk to them as if they understand what I'm saying in words. Some words they do understand, but the rest they sense. I have a few cats that tell me when they need water or food or kitty treats. They come and sit and meow and when I get up they are meowing and take me to whatever they need and look up at me telling me what they want loud and clear.
I had an experience with my Black Lab I will never forget. I have mobility problems, so when I went outside she was right there by my side. She would stop whatever she was doing to be there for me. I fell in the grass and could not get up. I was about 20 feet from the Van I have and I needed to get to it, to pull myself up. I have bad knees so I am unable to crawl. My Lab, Molly, knew that plus knew I needed to get to the Van. Mind you, I said nothing to her, except I did pet her. She shimmied under me and scooted me over to the Van and stayed there supporting me until I got myself stabilized. I couldn't believe it. I felt so much love flowing out of her. That dog was a treasure to me. I felt safe when she was around. Someone stole her from me and I have been heartbroken ever since. But what she did for me lives on in my heart and memory.
I love all my kids (as I call them). They all have their way of communicating with you, each other and to other animals. All you have to do is pay attention to what they do and try to put yourself in their place. The rest just falls into place. Animals are remarkable and smarter that some people.

This is a very cool book. Maybe someone should reprint it and put it in survival packs for sale to all of us. The way the world is going lately, we just made need a copy. Look at all we have been through in the past several years and what we are trying to survive through now in the good old USA. I think we all should get a copy. How about you?
