Rare Beasts is a great book for ages 8-12. I bought the set Triple Threat for my younger brother, which includes the first three Edgar & Ellen books (Rare Beasts, Tourist Trap, and Under Town) and he LOVED them. They feature two prank-loving twins and their mysterious pet, a one-eyed hairball named only Pet. The chapters are short and the illustrations every few pages make this a great book for reluctant readers as well. The story itself is fun and light-hearted with the twins playing pranks on their neighbors, but always getting what comes to them in the end. I recommend this book and its following series very highly.
