Recommended to me by my wife, I had my doubts, but the book was beautifully written. He also manages to capture many of the sentiments and feelings of operating as a surgeon. His command of language is beautiful; his descriptions are succint and unique. I would not hesitate to recommend this book to anyone.
OK, so I felt obligated to read it because my high-school-aged brother-in-law always reads books I recommend, and then he bought a copy of this for me. I finally read it, and I have to admit that I enjoyed it. I definitely liked the format for the book, which is a journalist driven report that spans the globe while weaving the tale of before the outbreak, the ensuing battle, and the aftermath. Yes, it's definitely a zombie book, but you have to remember that most zombie books don't become New York Times Bestseller's as this one did.
Great book. Intertwined tales with central event with a David Mitchell sort of feel to interconnectedness (i know, pretend it is a word). The opening story surrounding two brothers one of which is an unconventional priest figure pulled me in, and although the remainder of the book was not as strong as the start, it a well written, well planned novel.
great read from a great author. i am not typically into post-apocolyptic type lit, but this one stays true to mccarthy's knack for terse dialogue and gritty scenes. i loved it and have recommended it to several people who have subsequently loved it.
