Creative concept, and well-researched, but formulaic at heart and ultimately disappointing. I thought the Connie character could have been developed in greater depth; some of her reactions and choices just didn't seem credible. The explorations of magic would have had a greater impact if the realism of the book was more plausible overall. Look forward to more from this author though!
