World Without End by Ken Follett
World Without End

llbarton, January 2, 2011

A worthy sequel to Follett's best selling "Pillars of the Earth." While there are no characters in common as WWE is set 200 years later, the continuity is preserved through a sense of place and culture. Follett transports the reader to the Middle Ages with all it's woes and helps us live the history.

Lonely Planet a Small Place in Italy (Lonely Planet Journeys) by Eric Newby
Lonely Planet a Small Place in Italy (Lonely Planet Journeys)

llbarton, May 29, 2009

Traveling to Italy this summer? (Or just wish you were?) "A Small Place in Italy" will get you in the mood and introduce you to the culture of the contadini. Newby and his wife Wanda buy an ancient farmhouse, returning to an area of bittersweet personal history: He was a POW on-the-run and she a member of the Italian Resistance that saved his life.
