If you have aches and pains that slow you down or drain your energy Viniyoga might help you feel better. With more than ten years of experience as a yoga teacher and massage therapist I have studied several forms or yoga ranging from Iyengar, to Kundalini, and Sivananada. Viniyoga seems to me to be the most healing form of yoga for students and clients because it combines slow, simple movements with every breath.

Gary Kraftsow, author of Yoga for Wellness, has given us a remarkable gift by teaching us this technique. Anyone who has been injured can tell you that when their neck hurts, it often causes their low back to hurt, too. Or with a knee injury, a hip might start aching a week or two later. The posture flows in Yoga For Wellness are brilliant. A simple spinal twist includes a subtle arm movement that makes it especially healing for neck injuries. Variations on the cat stretch help unstick the Si joint and reteach the pelvis correct lumbar-sacral movement. Kraftsow's masterful knowlege of kinesiology has allowed him to create simple posture flows, tailored for specific injuries, that everyone can practice .

Every yoga teacher, physical therapist, and massage therapist would be wise to own this book because it contains posture flows for specific injuries as well as advanced flows for pain-free bodies who want to grow their yoga practice. The wonderful lessons in anatomy and physiology also help lay people understand their bodies better and give health practitioners a nice review from a yogi's perspective. The spiritual lessons in Yoga for Wellness are very tasteful and do not overwhelm readers with esoteric yoga teachings that most yoga teachers love but students often find kind of weird. It's truly a wonderful book and once you learn the exercises and add them to your pain control methods you will be as grateful as I am that Gary Kraftsow took the time to write it!

Every time I'm hurting I go back to this book. And the posture flows never fail to make me feel better by the next day which seems really remarkable!
