The Secret Life of Cee Cee Wilkes is the type of story that just keeps you wanting more. I kept thinking about this book and could not wait to read it whenever I could.

The story takes over 20 years. CeeCee Wilkes is 16-years-old who lost her Mother at the young age of 12 and never knew her Father. Her Mother loved her deeply and left her letters that Cee Cee could read throughout her lifetime, offering advice as she aged. Cee Cee had a difficult life due to the loss of both parents at a young age and lived in several foster homes. At the age of 16 Cee Cee worked as a waitress in a college diner. While working there she "fell in love" with a handsome older man, Tim Gleason. Tim knew that Cee Cee was young and naive, just what he needed to pull off a crime. Tim and his Brother had a sister that was imprisoned for murdering someone. Tim of course told Cee Cee that his sister was a victim and they needed to free her but no one would believe she was not guilty. So, they decided they would kidnap the Governor's wife in order to use her as leverage to release their sister. Cee Cee was to be the guard of this women in an old cabin in the middle of nowhere. Since Cee Cee was so enthralled with Tim she said yes, knowing that it was wrong the whole time. When Genevieve arrived handcuffed, Cee Cee was shocked to also see she was pregnant and very much so, 8 months. This made Cee Cee really nervous about the whole situation but it was too late. Tim and his brother leave Cee Cee to watch Genevieve and of course the worst happens, she goes into labor. Cee Cee now has to deliver her baby, but guess what? It turns out that Genevieve is at a high risk of hemohraging to death and Cee Cee is left to try and save her. Sadly, Genevieve dies and Cee Cee must seek help...The story goes on from there. There are many twists and turns that just keep you on the edge of your seat.

Memoirs of a Geisha (Vintage Contemporaries) by Arthur Golden
Memoirs of a Geisha (Vintage Contemporaries)

As a fan of all things Japanese, Memoirs of a Geisha left a lasting impression in my mind. This is one of the rare books that I could read over and over again and never grow tired. It is the story of a young Japanese girl who is sold to a Geisha House in order to help her family survive. You see the young girl blossom into a beautiful Geisha over time and it pulls at your heartstrings. I believe that Memoirs of a Geisha should definitely win the book of the decade.
