This is a wonderful book for beginning kayakers. This book is complete, interesting and with enough humor to keep it interesting. Some of the descriptions of strokes and technical moves would be more clear with added diagrams instead of just word descriptions, but the information is solid. This is a great resource and also includes a beginning navigation introduction as well.

This book has everything you need to plan a safe and enjoyable kayak or canoe voyage. The 75 routes listed are all within 2 hrs driving of Portland and include information of where to begin and end, aproximate distance and time, and good lunch spots. Also included are what time of year is best for route, whether or not you need a parking or forest service pass and which routes should be reserved for more experienced paddlers. It also gives tips about which routes are not safe during hunting season (always important information in Oregon)!

This is an excellent book! I don't think you have to be a water baby to enjoy these tales of soggy adventure. I love that this woman has accomplished amazing physical feats and is nowhere near a size 2! She has used her talents to open doors and build bridges across cultures and politics. She is a wonderful example and embassador to be sure! Well-written too!
