My sister slept with the light on until she was 27. She rightfully blames me. I would leap out of closets with my hands made into claws. I would...

Seems like there are a bunch of these type of books on the market right now. This one is one of my favorites (I check them out at the library to try before I buy.) It has several great project ideas and is inspiring for me. I made the prairie blouse and the Bo Peep skirt (twice, using different fabrics) for my daughter. She loves them and gets lots of compliments. The directions are step-by-step. I've been able to follow the step-by-step directions mostly with success. I did have one setback: with the trim on the shirt, the way it told me to fold it and sew didn't allow me to thread the elastic through when the time came so I had to open it and correct a little, but maybe that was just me having a "duh" moment. My next project is the Fabric as Art. I need large artwork for my new house and large walls and I just can't find anything I like. Here is a great opportunity to make art, exactly as I want it, in the size I want! I can't wait.
Not only do I adore this book, my 9 year old son thinks it's great too. We look up words together some mornings, each choosing a word for the day, jot them on a piece of paper which we tuck in our pocket and then pull it out to use throughout the day. Our most recent gems inclue logorreah, long shanks, lickety split, and lollygag. Even my 5 year old picks a word of the day and enjoys using and hearing the word. I appreciate that our knowledge base of words is growing! It's written in "everyday language" and humorously uses examples and explanations I can relate to. I'm afraid I'll run out of words to learn though so I wish it were bigger.

Kid-like poetry, ohetry, woetry, rhyming, timing, occupying our minds, making us chortle, snortle and ortle! One of my faves. I read it aloud to my 4-8 year olds and they love it too. I pick it up for kid gifts.

An indispensable resource, I keep it w/my Bible. Knowing the right verse to challenge or encourage a gal with is what this book is great for. I also grab it as I'm rushing out the door with a card and a gift and I look up the situation (mothering/marriage) and jot down a verse in my card. I use it when sending notes to others, to find just the right verse. Some categories include: bitterness, infertility, faith, hospitality, lust, role of the woman, worry. My "dislikes" include: not the version I prefer (it's NIV, I'd like ESV or NASB). AND I'd like to see more categories (it has approx. 100).
