Gossamer by Lois Lowry
Gossamer

Madison Lloyd, August 5, 2015

Lois Lowry is best known for revolutionizing the world of writing for children, blazing the trail of the genre of 'young adult' and 'dystopian' twenty years before they were popular with her powerful/ heart stirring and thought twirling novel The Giver. She has continued to delight and enlighten both children and adults alike in her captivating and profoundly human works such as Number the Stars, Gathering Blue, The Willoughby's, and Son. Recently I was fortunate enough to discover Gossamer, a less lauded, though profoundly life affirming offering from this literary master. The enchanting story of 'Littlest' follows the adventures of the newest member in a nest of 'dream givers' in a gentle tale that both enchants and enraptures. Poignant, captivatingly real characters and situations are tempered by tender and charming feelings that grip hearts and inspire hope and wonder in readers of all ages. A treasure!!

The Cardturner by Louis Sachar
The Cardturner

madison lloyd, May 24, 2011

The Cardturner (or, 'Pageturner', as it might more appropriately be called!) is a fresh and intriguing book starring a young adult cast, but appealing to readers of many ages. entertainingly recounted through the voice of an incredibly likable main character, the story twists and turns, centered on the relationship between a high school senior and his bridge loving uncle. the short, entertaining chapters (along with a touch of romance later on!!) keep the story alive and moving and quite a ride to the very end!! this author of holes knows how to tell intriguing stories like no other!
