Kurt Nelson has written a balanced, detailed history of the conflict between the Indians and the settlers of the NW. While the book is packed with detail regarding the different battles that took place, the author manages to keep the 'human element' foremost in the narrative. This is not a dry flat recital of war. The reader not only learns what happened, but also, gets a feel for the anguish, determination, bravery and treachery experienced by both sides. A good read!
