Twilight Magic by Shari Anton
Twilight Magic

meaganhatfield, September 22, 2006

Ms. Anton does it again!! With her endearing characters, historically rich world and distinctive voice, she effortlessly transports you to a time when Knights, Lady?s and honor abound.

Ever since she was a child, Emma de Leon has suffered visions. After a few traumatizing ones involving her loved ones, she found a way to suppress them. Yet the strongest vision, one of the man who would one day be her lover, has haunted her for years. When a family matter finds her at the Kings court, she at long last sees the man in the flesh. No sooner does her elation at finally seeing him crest, he is accused of a horrible crime. In her heart Emma knows he?s innocent and steps in to save his life. The end result of her helpful act sees them wed by the Kings order. Emma?s new husband is none too pleased with her for butting into his life, and for more reasons than just their hasty nuptials he believes there is no future in their marriage. Little does he know Emma has seen that they not only have a chance at a future, they have a chance at love.

Darian of Bruges has always been a faithful and loyal subject to the crown. So when the King orders he wed a stranger, Darian obeys without question. But he?s not happy about it. Sure the woman is everything a man could want in a wife. Emma is beautiful, spirited and loving. However Darian is a wounded soul who believes himself not worthy of her. Not to mention, he?s grown accustomed to his solitary life as a mercenary. Even so, the more time he spends playing husband to this intriguing Lady Emma, the more his heart yearns for the peace and contentment he feels when they?re together. Will Darian be able to swallow his pride and become the man he sees in Emma?s eyes? Or will his one chance at true love and happiness slip through his fingers?

I have been a fan of this very talented writer for years and she keeps upping the bar with each effort. No one can write medieval romances like her. She peppers the perfect amount of accurate historical details through the story to bring her well fleshed out characters to life. Twilight Magic is a wonderful, heartwarming tale that will sweep you up in the times and carry you away into a wonderful romance. Emma and Darian are delightful, and it is a pure joy to watch their love for one another blossom. I eagerly await the third book in this magical series about the De Leon sisters.

The Invasion of Falgannon Isle by Deborah Macgillivray
The Invasion of Falgannon Isle

meaganhatfield, September 20, 2006

Ms. MacGillivray has not only done it again, she?s put an entirely new and wonderful twist on the saying! This latest effort has upped the bar for contemporary romance novels today and proved beyond a shadow of a doubt she is an author to watch!

B. A. Montgomerie has the daunting task of not only being the sole, eligible woman on an isle of over 200 braw and bonnie Scotsman, but being the Lady of the Isle, is the reason they cannot find wives. Falgannon is home to a centuries old curse boding that no man will sire daughters or find happiness in marriage unless The Lady of the Isle weds a black haired, green-eyed Irishman. As you can imagine, these Scot laddies are none too please. So when a man fitting the bill stumbles onto their peaceful island, these peculiar and hilarious characters set to matchmaking.

Desmond Mershan has only one thing in mind when he steps foot on Falgannon, and it?s not breaking some silly curse. For years he has planned and waited to take his revenge on the Montgomerie clan. However, no amount of caution or planning could have prepared him for the formidable cat and an even more remarkable woman he found hidden like the most rare of treasures on the island. B.A. awakens in him emotions he thought he?d long buried under years and years of hate, and he finds himself almost too willing to let her love assuage his soul. But when the time comes for him to follow through with his plan, will Desmond be able to let go of his past to start a future with B.A? Or will both he and the island Scots forever be doomed to live a life without love?

This story is an emotional rollercoaster I never wanted to end! The antics and predicaments the Scots boys and the Cat Dudley find themselves in made me laugh out loud. While the tormented and wounded spirit within Desmond, pulled my heartstrings and brought a lump to my throat. He and B.A. are perfectly matched and their courtship is a pure joy to behold. This latest effort, fresh off the staggering success of her top ranking best seller, A Restless Knight, has permanently placed Ms. MacGillivray on the list of authors I will buy simply because her name is on the cover. I am eagerly anticipating the sequel, Riding The Thunder as well as the future stories about these memorable and endearing characters.

A Restless Knight (Zebra Debut) by Deborah Macgillivray
A Restless Knight (Zebra Debut)

meaganhatfield, May 17, 2006

All I can say is WOW! A RESTLESS KNIGHT is a sensational debut novel for Ms. MacGillivray. This Scottish storyteller's enchanting voice and gift of imagery weaves a spell from page one, as she effortlessly transports us to the mystical Glen Shane highlands of 1296 Scotland.

Jullian Challon, King Edward's one-time champion, known as the Black Dragon, wants nothing more than to leave his long years of fighting and death to memory. His warrior's soul has grown weary and his mind verges on the brink of madness after losing a brother in the battle that still haunts his dreams. Challon doesn't believe he's capable of love. But hopes laying claim to the simple lands due him, taking a wife and having children will lessen the pain of living. He never dared dream thetreasure Edward bestowed upon him with the beautiful and bewitching LadyMcShane, would not only awaken his deadened soul, but breathe hope back into his life.

Tamlyn McShane is no ordinary Scottish lass, but a descendant of the Sidhe, and gifted with the keening. She foresaw the day the Black Dragon would come to claim her and her lands, so her mind fights him at every turn. But
her body is drawn toward the most beautiful and sensual man she's ever set eyes on. Her heart and soul inexorably yearn to heal the pain she sees within him. Will her love be enough to soothe it? Or will the horror and guilt from his past keep a wall around his heart and the Dragon's love from her?

This story is an amazingly breathtaking read from start to finish! The blazing love affair between Jullian and Tamlyn is heartwarming and true. I fell head over heels in love with Challon! He's just the right mix of yummy, sensual man and strong, valiant knight. The historic details are deftly peppered throughout the book. A surprise character toward the end not only brought home the significance of the period with which it's written, but sent chills up my spine and nearly tears to my eyes. Ms. MacGillivray's has far and away proven herself to be a rising star in the romance world. KNIGHT will sit proud and firm on my keeper shelf, and I eagerly await her next efforts to add to my collection. Well-done Ms. MacGillivray!

Rules of Passion by Sara Bennett
Rules of Passion

meaganhatfield, May 4, 2006

This book is actually the second in the series about the Greentree sisters, but I've only read this one and had no problem keeping everyone straight.

It tells the story of Marietta Greentree, daughter of a famous London courtesan, who after a failed love affair and subsequent scandal, decides to follow in her mother's footsteps. Horrified, her mother decides she must successfully seduce the most handsome and ineligible bachelor in all of London, Max Valland. Her mother knows Marietta is attracted to the disinherited former Lord Roseby and hopes to stop her daughter from making the same mistakes she did. So, she sets "tasks" before Marietta under the guise they are to prove her capable of being a courtesan. Marietta agrees. She likes Max and eagerly looks forward to him teaching her all about desire and the rules of passion. But as these tasks progress from learning how to kiss, to wearing barely there outfits, to meeting in a strange place and perfoming duties in public--she realizes she's living in a fantasy world when it comes to the realities of being a courtesan. That and somehow, somewhere along the way, she's done something a courtesan is never supposed to do...lost her heart.

I thoroughly enjoyed this story! There are more than a few laugh out loud moments during Marietta's tasks. All of the characters are well written, witty and rather charming. The chemistry and sexual tension between Max and Marietta leaps off the page and their individual story lines proved unique and refreshing.

Dark Desires (Zebra Historical Romance) by Eve Silver
Dark Desires (Zebra Historical Romance)

meaganhatfield, May 4, 2006

Eve Silver has written a breakout debut novel!
Dark Desires is a wonderful, sensual, thrilling Gothic romance. I'd forgotten how much I love this genre, until I read Eve's book!
It tells the story of a young, destitute woman who almost
falls victim to the murderer prowling the streets of White chapel. But she escapes, and finds employment with a handsome, yet strange doctor. The time they spend together becomes wrought with sexual tension. However, when she sees him leave his lab covered in blood, she begins to wonder if perhaps she hadn't gotten so far away from the killer afterall.

Oohh...I get goosebumps just reading that! This is a
great read to curl under the covers with on some lonely, stormy night.
