Reading Marya Hornbacher's first memoir, Wasted, literally saved my life. At the time I was suffering from a 5 year eating disorder. A year later, I was diagnosed with Bipolar II. When Madness came out I was extremely interested. It's a brilliant look at how mental illness really is and shines light on the extreme euphoria and terror that Bipolar Disorder brings. I strongly recommend it to anyone who knows someone with Bipolar Disorder or struggles with the disease themselves.

This book really brings home the horrific problems with our health care system. As someone with chronic health problems, I could definitely relate. Our health care system in America desperately needs reform.

In this novel that deals with an intensely tragic subject (Alzheimer's Disease) Sebold lyrically braids a story with emotion and lovely prose in a dark, gothic story that will move the soul.

This one of the first books I read after being diagnosed as Bipolar. It scared the crap out of me, but it also made me feel like I was no longer alone in my struggle.
