Mmm... I'm not usually drawn to historical (non)fiction, but I couldn't put this book down. The adventure the characters encounter is deliciously presented. It is a book you might devour.

A delightful book. The heroine is a character to love--brave, strong, audacious and depthful. Readers will not be disappointed. As always, du Maurier brings her gift of writing to deepen the reading experience and manages to add complexity to the characters making them relateable and loveable. This book has all the elements of a great read--excitement, adventure, danger, romance, and pure entertainment.
I was disappointed that the collection of stories already included The Birds and Monte Verita, when I had already read them in a different collection. Her stories are always interesting with unexpected twists and turns. I appreciate her imagination and her fine gift of writing.
This was a good book. It starts out a tad slow and I had to push myself to keep reading it. However, around page 70, it begins to pick up the pace and I found myself curious and intrigued. I'm glad I stayed with the first half because I felt well-rewarded by the end of the book.

A fun read, but slow in some parts. My favorite parts? Whenever Vida re-visited the past of her youth--creepy and intriguing, unique and interesting.(0 of 2 readers found this comment helpful)
