Crush (Yale Series of Younger Poets) by Richard Siken
Crush (Yale Series of Younger Poets)

mmrichards, December 6, 2012

Crush has the dubious distinction of being the only book I've ever purchased twice. I took my first copy everywhere for over a month, reading and rereading, and finally lost it somewhere (school? bus? coffee shop?). Back to Powell's two days later--it's still worth the double buy.

Literature, especially poetry, says a lot about its readers, and I've liked everyone I've met who has read Crush. Crush is important as LGBTQ poetry, but it is equally captivating and accessible as poetry about obsession and desperation.

"You see, I take the parts that I remember and stitch them back together to make a creature that will do what I say or love me back."
