Reading this book in January 2001 interested me in traveling to Scotland to see locations from the book, and then in writing a novel set in Scotland, and producing several music concerts for a Scottish musician. The book, in addition to enjoying it for itself, set a chain reaction of new interests that changed my life.

When the news of world events gets you down, Alexander McCall Smith's series NO 1 LADIES' DETECTIVE AGENCY is a great escape. Mma Ramotswe, Botswana's lady detective, usually manages to find the win-win solution, but it's not always easy. McCall Smith's charm is subtle and strong.

Let me review this book 5 weeks before its release date of September 22, 2009, based on having read the previous 6 books in the OUTLANDER series: Jamie and Claire want little more than to be together and be safe, yet they are often separated and in danger. Wars, illness and injury, pirates, politics, wild animal attacks....any number of life's challenges stand in the way. The adventure continues! I'll be there Sept. 22 to get my copy, followed by several days of non-stop reading!

I really enjoyed this look at life in rural Spain near the historic city of Granada. A contemporary English couple move to a beautiful and very rustic mountain-side farm and meet the many challenges there with the help of generous neighbors and humorous outlook.
