This is a fantastic and disturbing book about the difficult life of indigenous Guatemalans as seen through the eyes of a brave and articulate woman. The details provided by Menchu provide the reader with both a historical understanding and an emotional connection with the events that transpired in this woman's life. Although difficult to read at times, I would recommend this book to anyone travelling to Guatemala so as to gain a deeper understanding of the history that lives in the earth there.
