I was raised in a very strict Catholic home. As a young adult I stopped practicing my religion out of frustration and feeling deceived because I always felt like I was never really getting the whole story about Jesus and the Bible. As an older adult I rejoined the Catholic faith and actually went through a two year formation process and became a lay minister in the Catholic Church. I learned a lot through my intense two years of formation classes, but still nothing compared to what Ehrman taught me in his book: Jesus Interrupted. I was relieved to read Ehrman's book and have the facts placed in front of me. He gave me no reason to doubt the history of Jesus and introduced a fresh way to read the Bible. Yes, I believe Jesus existed and died by crucifixtion. I believe in our lives we travel through peaks and valleys with our [blind] faith and Ehrman's books are there for the entire trip as a guide. He has answered questions I have had but afraid to ask. In a sense he has restored my belief in myself and allowed me not to be afraid of the answers. With church attendance down I think we need to ask the true "Why?" and read Ehrman. People want the up front answer and the preachers in the churches need to stop being afraid to give the correct answer to the people. We are seekers and will find the answers, so better for the preachers to teach the truth than to hide the information. Etneral life and God is in the soul or thoughts of the believer and not necessarily in the history of Jesus! So do not fear reading Ehrman.
