This book is only second to Ernest Hemingway's "A moveable feast" in its ability to capture the idealistic frivolity of being young and being in Paris. Karnow writes magnificently on every aspect of post-war Parisian life inviting the reader to be nostalgic for a setting he has never experienced. He writes of a time so perfect that it gives the reader a subtle feeling that somehow happiness is passing him by.
