Jesus for President: Politics for Ordinary Radicals by Shane Claiborne and Chris Haw
Jesus for President: Politics for Ordinary Radicals

neithercuddly, April 8, 2009

I can't begin to describe how great this book is. It's visually beautiful - there's artwork laced through it, to the point that the book nearly reads like a scrapbook. The ideas discussed are historical but also new, and the ways of implementing them are creative and common enough that you don't have to be rich or powerful to act them out. It isn't simplistic, but it's very easy to read. Definitely lacks the dryness of many books on this theme, and can be enjoyed by nearly any age group.

The Gangster We Are All Looking For by Thi Diem Thuy Le
The Gangster We Are All Looking For

Get this book, or you will regret it! I wasn't expecting too much from it, but ten pages in, and I was hooked. Thi Diem Thuy Le is amazing at infusing prose with poetry, and the book builds like a piece of music, with an ending climax that will disappoint no one. It grabs at your heart and tugs until you can see the sun baked streets she describes, until you can hear the parents fighting. Amazing.

The year of silence

neithercuddly, April 8, 2009

This book was fantastic and great to read! Bell has an astounding range of voice - every one of his characters is unique and new, never once blending in a way that is all too common for this type of book. It reads almost like a series of short stories, but the interlocking theme of it binds them all together as one story told from several perspectives. More than worth the money you pay for it!
