For most of us who are not astrophysicists (and even some who are), dark matter is a perplexing matter. It is a subject that is dominated by unusual terms like “missing matter”, “MACHOs” and “WIMPs”. So it is a remarkable feat one someone can take the subject down from the technical level without dumbing it down. Evalyn Gates’ book one of the most coherent and entertaining reads on the subject. The book is remarkably easy to read, with easy-to-follow diagrams and simple yet scientific language. Gates’ expertise shines through with miles of references to journals and well-thought out prose. Her writing style is engaging and passionate, her passion for the subject is apparent and even infectious. As a high school student with zero experience in astrophysics it was the perfect read for formulating my research paper. So go on, give it a go. Dark matter has been illuminated.
