What do you mean you haven't heard of Flavia de Luce? This book reads like a Nancy Drew novel if it were written by Chuck Palahniuk and Neil Gaiman. Its clever, compelling, and ineffably creative.
The juxtaposition of Flavia's 11 year old brain and her complex prose is delightful and refreshing. As a character, Flavia is 1 part Emily the Strange, 1 part Wednesday Adams, and 1 part Alice of the Wonderland fame. I could gush about Flavia all day, but Alan Bradley has penned a whole cast of unique and realistic supporting characters who help round out this colorful novel.
I may always be the annoying person who insists I can puzzle out the mystery before the end of the book, but Flavia surprised even me and 'Sweetness' kept me guessing until the very end.
