We were first introduced to the Elephant & Piggie books when my 2nd grader was in kindergarten learning to read. These books are exactly what you want in an early reader. The words are simple, but not in the contrived way that many early readers sound (think "see spot run") and the plot is not. It's funny, engaging and the characters are totally silly and lovable. It was one of the first books she could read without help and she LOVED reading it out loud because there is lots of opportunity for being dramatic. We have several from this series and they are all good but I Am Invited to a Party has always been the favorite. We both laugh out loud reading this one and continue to enjoy them even though she can read much more complicated books now.

This is one of the best early reader books we have come across. A beginning reader can read this book with little prompting, and the story is actually engaging and funny. What a concept!
