After reading a few books that purport to be "spiritual journeys" and offer little evidence of even a valid conversion experience, it's refreshing to read Cairns.
He combines a refreshing unpretentious style of prose
along with the spirit of a genuine spiritual seeker. His interactions with the monks of Athos are enlightening
as is his exposing of occasional sanctified exclusiveness. It's obvious that he entered into the spirit of Athonite monasticism and he shares it well.
