Fledgling by Octavia E. Butler
Fledgling

Fledgling was one of my first adult sci-fi books, and I am now hooked on Octavia. I recommend Fledgling to any of my friends who like vampire books or movies. The added layers of the racial tensions and amnesia just give this book a even deeper reading experience. Even after reading it multiple times, I can stay up all night just to finish it, its that addictive!

Lilith's Brood by Octavia E. Butler
Lilith's Brood

pig_girl, May 27, 2011

I have had a hard time transitioning from Young Adult fantasy and sci-fi, into Adult, this book was wonderful. A few years ago I discovered Fledgling, and now recommend that to all my vampire loving friends. This trilogy, conveniently in one book so i didnt have to stop, was great. Lilith is a great female protagonist, with strong emotions, who really knows herself, or thinks she does. the Oankali are a complex society, and you learn more about them every chapter.

Mastiff (The Legend of Beka Cooper #3) by Tamora Pierce
Mastiff (The Legend of Beka Cooper #3)

pig_girl, May 27, 2011

The Beka Cooper books are great for those people who love a good strong female protagonist, without too much magic. I am a huge fan of all of Tamora Pierce's books, and I have found that this series is a nice change to her magic filled world. while magic does exist, it does not play a big role in this series the way it does in her others.

Locals: A Contemporary Investigation of the Bigfoot / Sasquatch Phenomenon by Thom Powell
Locals: A Contemporary Investigation of the Bigfoot / Sasquatch Phenomenon

Mr. Powell was my 8th grade science teacher. He has a true enthusiasm for the bigfoot phenomenon, and this book really shows that. I belive that this book can be helpful, and interesting, to all who are interested in the northwest's 'big'gest creature.
