Monster by Walter Dean Myers

poohtigger72, February 19, 2008

Monster is an unforgettable, creatively written novel about a young man's struggle with his innocence. As you continue reading, you can almost picture yourself there between the pages of this book. You will also find yourself wondering, are we truly 'innocent until proven guilty?' Do our minds choose to block out acts of unbelievable fate? If you love mystery and have struggled with your own conscience, I truly recommend this book.

The Giver by Lois Lowry
The Giver

poohtigger72, February 12, 2008

The Giver is a science fiction masterpiece. Imagine a world where your interests, occupation and family members have already been chosen for you. A place that gives new meaning to "thinking outside of the box". Follow Jonas' journey to a place of unknowable freedom at an expense he never imagined. I would recommend this novel for all young adult readers that crave an unlikely imagination.

Shelf Life: Stories by the Book by Gary Paulsen
Shelf Life: Stories by the Book

poohtigger72, February 2, 2008

I am currently enrolled in a literacy program and Shelf Life is an assigned reading. This book is a compilation of both intriguing and magical short stories, most of which will leave you thinking "wait, what happens next?" I recommend this book to any adolescent or adult that wishes to escape from the stress of life's daily grind. Gary Paulsen is a talented and gifted author who can take you to an imaginative place full of serenity and wonder.
