This is such a great book for kids! I grew up having it read to me and have passed it along to all my nieces and nephews, who all love it as well. The illustrations are absolutely gorgeous (though, be warned a few are a little bloody, I've found that kids don’t notice or care, it’s the adults that have more of an issue). The author also did a great job of condensing the story down for a younger audience while still making it coherent and true to the original story. I still treasure my original copy.
I've never been a good cook, I can follow recipes okay but it usually takes me a few pathetically failed attempts to get it right. I took a gamble on this book though because a co-worker made the root beer cake; it was so good I had to have it and I needed to bring a dessert for a family get together. I also made the root beer cake and it turned out really well-my first time! I love how easy the instructions are, how unique and tasty sounding the recipes are and the drool worthy photos.
