Building Websites with Mambo by Hagen Graf
Building Websites with Mambo

rajuru, October 7, 2006

I am familiar with Mambo from long ago. But I did not go inside it as I thought it is complex & tough to manage.
Surprisingly, I won this book as the 3rd prize of programming contest of phpexperts group. I was happy to get this book though.
Started reading the book and it raised my interest to go inside of mambo. The lucid expression of the book increased my pleasure. The authors described each things ins & out. The first chapter Terms & Concepts removed my earlier misconception (including CMS) about Mambo .
The installation description of Mambo is amazing. Even a newbie who don’t have any idea about script installation, will enjoy this.

In the book the author explained each (even small) parts of Frontend, Backend of Mambo. There is explanation on using Mambo extensions with creating custom extensions. There is a chapter about Corporate Identity with template designing for creating your own design.

Like other books, this is not out of limitation. I felt lack of codes explation in Chapter 6::Corporate Identity & in Chapter 7 :: Your Own Program Extensions. This may result stuck for new web developers. Again, the price may seem to be little bit higher for some users.

But in a word, the book is “Fantastic”

MySQL (Complete Reference) by Vikram Vaswani
MySQL (Complete Reference)

rajuru, October 7, 2006

Once I got a project for which I have to use Transactional Database. So I need to learn it. I was searching for book in the market. Surprisingly I met Hasin vy in the Book Market. He advised me to buy the book title MySQL (The complete reference) by Vikram Vaswani. I purchased and come back to home. I decided that I will skip beginnging chapters and will jump to Transcation chapter. But, I opening pages, I read one or two sections. The more I read, the more I thought that I don't know anything of MySQL. So I started over.

I was feeling fantastic as I am going through the book. The book described each and every aspect of MySQL very nicely.I had not to read one thing twice to understand. It happened due the simple explanation of the points and each & every points was described with examples of real world. I was spell bound while reading Data Types, Operators, Functions, Sub queries, Administration, Performance Optimization etc. discovering the power of MySQL and the reading the lucid explanation of the book. I believe, this is the first book where there is no discussion without example.

The book is really for the new to super MySQL users. Even anyone having no experience of RDBMS may find interest while reading it. Again the book covered development of solutions in C, PHP, Perl in seperate chapter. So I could easily drop C, Perl as I am a PHP developer.

At last this book is "Must have" type book.
