This book does a very good job of portraying the piquant yet ripped-up zeitgeist of the early 1970s. And, it does so within a compelling narrative framework. This is a blood-and-noir drenched story of violence, drugs, naivete and desperation that's sort of like a Tarantino film but amped up to significantly higher level by Stone's judicious inclusion of meaningful social commentary and even a little bit of serious philosophical thought.

This book rocked -- on its face, it's a brief and very simple story very well told in a minimalist style. But it's a story which contains more than a few delightful mysteries.
