This book is a good read which shows how our human nature reacts to external influences which are beyond our control. The historical backdrop makes for an interesting view on how folks react under trying circumstances.
As I have stated in a prior comment, this book is incredible. It picks up where "The Passage" left off and was a page turner the whole time. The introduction of new characters and the status of the original "first colony" kept me on my seat the whole time. Justin Cronin has really developed a great story. I can't wait till the final book of the trilogy comes out.

For all you Tim Powers fans this book does not disappoint. For those who have never had the opportunity to read Tim Powers, read this book. This book contains a story of poets and vampires, but not in any traditional sense. It is written in the typical matter of fact Tim Powers approach to the ethereal.
It is a relatively easy and enjoyable read.
