Reading this book is like a series of short visits with an extremely articulate friend who is by turns playful, serious, deep thinking, loving, imaginative, solemn and very funny. The subtitle is "Life Studies from the Dismal Trade", but there's nothing dismal about this second-generation funeral director from Milford, Michigan who's also a poet highly regarded in the U.S/. and abroad. A companionable and original read.
