Seriously, just take my word for it. DO NOT read any reviews. DO NOT read the book jacket. DO NOT so much as glance at a blurb. It wouldn't be any fun if you knew anything (let alone everything) about what happens, right? Right. So Step 1: Start reading the novel. Now, you might find yourself thinking, Oh, this isn't my kind of mystery at all. Which brings us to Step 2: KEEP READING. (Step 3 is completely optional: You can thank me later.)

A marvelous autobiography about growing up under segregation. My favorite part is when our black and bookworm hero plots and schemes and finds a way to get books from a whites-only library. You gotta love that. No wait, I mean you gotta hate that. Oh, you know what I mean.

Utterly unique. I was so charmed by Smith's idiosyncratic voice that I couldn't stop reading.
But she wasn't kidding with that alternate title. I want to get as many people as possible to read this book so that eventually someone might explain the ending to me.
