An amazing series about a twelve year old master chemist who just happens to be the perfect sleuth. BAttling her teen sisters and finding her way to a better relationship with her distant father, the clever but senstive Flavia De Luce is one of my favorite characters in any book, of all time.

One of the first books I ever read. And one of the first books I ever read to my own children.
Ferdinand the Bull loves to sit and smell the flowers. He grows big and strong. One day the bullfighters come looking for the biggest, baddest bull they can find. All the other bulls run around showing off, while Ferdinance sits under a tree. Well, he tries to sit. The bumblebee stings his large heiney and he takes off roaring and snorting!
The bullfighters select him for the next bullfight. What will Ferdinand do? (Hint: Remember how much he loves flowers... And there's bound to be lots and lots there.)
