The Rosie Effect by Graeme Simsion
The Rosie Effect

selective reader, July 22, 2015

Excellent! Serious, quirky and humorous all at the same time. The prose is the same as in the first book but the adventure has changed. It will be interesting to see how the story progresses as time goes on. The author gives us good insight into the world of people who think differently than most of us especially when facing major challenges in our lives. We learn the importance of having patience with those we love and making real efforts to repair loss connections with each other. Is Don up to the challenge of fatherhood? Read this book to find out! If you enjoyed the first book, you should read this sequel. I hope to see a third book in the series.

Lucky Us by Amy Bloom
Lucky Us

A winner! I loved this book so much with all the interesting experiences that Iris and Eva find in their journey. There are so many twists as the two characters go about searching for fame and fortune but also find their share of scandal as well. This book has everything you could want including plenty of humor and high quality writing with true to life characters. It will keep you reading because you want to know how the story is going to end. Highly Recommended.

Go Set a Watchman by Harper Lee
Go Set a Watchman

selective reader, July 17, 2015

I have just finished reading Go Set a Watchman. I think this book is Amazing! Harper Lee has created a story about a difficult subject matter that draws you in due to her poetic writing style and very likeable characters. The story takes place many years after To Kill a Mockingbird. It doesn't really matter whether you think of this as a sequel or not. The important thing is that you enjoyed reading the story. Reading is simply for entertainment purposes. If you liked the book and found value in the story than the author did her job. I highly recommend this book.

Inside Scientology: The Story of America's Most Secretive Religion by Janet Reitman
Inside Scientology: The Story of America's Most Secretive Religion

selective reader, July 10, 2015

Janet Reitman has taken a subject that few people know the truth about an unveiled some secrets many have wondered about. In this objective, well researched and amazingly well written account on the life of Ron Hubbard and how Scientology has continued with people who are willing to spend millions of dollars and subject themselves to such an extremely restricted and harsh lifestyle. The facts you will read here are astonishing! A highly entertaining read but also frightening at the same time. Recommended!

First Frost by Sarah Addison Allen
First Frost

selective reader, July 4, 2015

In this sequel to Garden Spells the story picks up several years after the first book ended. The story continues and focuses again on the Waverly women who each possess a special gift. The Waverly family always get together for first frost to celebrate. This year first frost is later than usual which throws everything off for a bit and also brings trouble in the form of a stranger arriving in town. A great book to pick up for summer.
