Timbuktu by Paul Auster

sgreen, January 15, 2013

A short, fable-like tale you'll wish were longer. Fortunately, despite it's seeming simplicity, this book bears repeated readings. Told from a dog's perspective, this take on life and its hardships gets to what makes it worthwhile, without a whiff of sentimentality. A sheer bittersweet joy of a read. If Auster's other works approximate this one, I have a lot to look forward to.

Little Bee by Chris Cleave
Little Bee

sgreen, September 12, 2011

A profound tale of loss told by a young refugee, Little Bee, who still finds wonder in the world to which she has fled. Told with the dark hilarity of a survivor, her story intersects with that of a British couple and their young son in breathtaking tests of their humanity.
