The Dog Stars by Peter Heller
The Dog Stars

shesagiant, January 2, 2013

I really loved this book from the beginning. Full of sadness but also hope and love. This book reminded me a bit of The Road by Cormac McCarthy but not nearly as dark or depressing, though still pretty bleak. Hig (the main character) has such a hopeful and kind way about him, appreciating the little happy moments that occur without being too sappy. I was sad when I finished this book, I could have read three times as many pages. Definitely one of the best books I have read in 2012.

1Q84 by Haruki Murakami

shesagiant, January 19, 2012

1Q84 is nothing short of magical. I find myself scanning the sky for a second moon in hopes that I can fall into one of Murakami's dream worlds. I could have read 900 more pages of this story!
