This is one of the most gloriously beautiful meditations on time I have ever encountered. Our perception of history (and our place in it) is both sacred and profane. This is one of those few books to have on a deserted island. If you are unlikely to end up on a deserted island, it is at the very least one book you will want to share with good friends.
