Good Dog, Carl by Alexandra Day
Good Dog, Carl

A great book which will be treasured and appreciated by
1. DOG LOVERS who see this Rottweiler (a scary breed) is more than the trustworthy, passive follower -- He has artistic sensibilites and creativity and his wild side is funny irreverence. He is a better dog than his owner knows.
2. CHILDREN from two up who can "read" this book which develops character and has plot and tension without any words other than those on the first and last page (easily memorized) and spoken by the distant mother who really only sees the life of Carl and baby on the surface. Also for children who can imagine the possibilities of dogs dancing and babies swimming with the fish . . . and meals of butter which makes such good clay dough. I bet this is a good "reading readiness" book since children will get the idea of and satisfaction of reading a story from beginning to end before they can recognize words.
3. ADULTS who will love the humor and the expressions on the dog's face. The baby is merely a passive rather adult looking protege to bored Carl who can be obsequious and seem content as a pet but really wants and gets more out of his life.
4. ARTISTS for all of the above reasons
