Zillow Talk: The New Rules of Real Estate by Spencer Rascoff
Zillow Talk: The New Rules of Real Estate

susanusha, February 23, 2015

Written by the co-founders of Zillow, this book is chock full of info of interest to home-owners, people thinking of owning a home, and home sellers too. They have so much data at their finger-tips...and the data shows some surprising things. I'm not in real estate or even business, but I found this book so readable, and humorous too.

The Seed Underground: A Growing Revolution to Save Food by Janisse Ray
The Seed Underground: A Growing Revolution to Save Food

susanusha, November 30, 2014

If you are interested in food or gardening, this book will be fascinating. Why do people save seeds? What are those people like? (eccentric, dedicated and interesting) Janisse Ray is a good writer, and she shines writing about this subject.

Frog Trouble ...and Eleven Other Pretty Serious Songs by Sandra Boynton
Frog Trouble ...and Eleven Other Pretty Serious Songs

susanusha, December 9, 2013

Lively and fun for the whole family. Country songs go so well with Boynton's drawings. The songs are clever, and the singers ultra-talented. Play it after diner; the whole family will be either looking at the book or dancing around the living room!

Jim Henson: The Biography by Brian Jay Jones
Jim Henson: The Biography

susanusha, December 8, 2013

This fascinating biography not only traces the events of Henson's life, but also gives a real sense of his spirit, his ethics, and his vision. The genius behind Elmo, Miss Piggy, and Kermit, was apparently as warm and loving as he was funny and original. His four children, his ex-wife, and his work colleagues all seem to admire him. He was not perfect, and he had to overcome great prejudice against puppeteers; thankfully, he succeeded or the world would be poorer.

Making Masterpiece: 25 Years Behind the Scenes at Masterpiece Theatre and Mystery! on PBS by Rebecca Eaton
Making Masterpiece: 25 Years Behind the Scenes at Masterpiece Theatre and Mystery! on PBS

susanusha, November 30, 2013

I read it and enjoyed it because I am a hardcore Masterpiece fan. She weaves her personal life in with her professional, and knowing the personal losses she endured makes her work admirable. However, she's a producer, not a writer, and the book is not one that would capture the imagination of anyone who has not enjoyed Masterpiece. Her comments about the famous people she worked with, including Judi Dench, Allistair Cooke, and Colin Firth are fun.
