Written by one of our best literary historians, this book sheds light on who our 15th President really was and how he was able to transform himself to become the greatest president in our history. The book made me realize how great Lincoln truly was, and how monumental his presidency was to insuring that we live in the United States of America today. The book is also very applicable to our current President and his administration since as Lincoln did, President Obama has in many ways surrounded himself with people who were former political foes, and those who think differently than he does so that he has a variety of opinions with which to form policy. While the book is long, it covers so much--both the President and the Man who was our 15th President. Particularly interesting to me, aside from the Civil War, was Lincoln's dedication to his family, and how he coped with the illness of his sons and their ultimate deaths. A wonderful father as well as our Greatest President.
