Beautiful novel, truly a work of genius storytelling. It is so relevant even today because Undset's understanding of human relationships and emotions are dead on.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. I would say it's a great read for both men and women because it presents love and the misery of divorce in such a creative, funny and real way. Also, the chapters are short and tasty, it's easy to pick it up each night and read a little snippet, although you probably won't want to put it down! Don't let the cover fool you, it's not a romance novel but high quality prose.
