In families where DV is present, and a spouse is abused, along with the children as they witness it, the abuser does not consider the safety of spouse, much less the children. Additionally, they are only held accountable for their acts, should the abused spouse proceed with holding them accountable, which often times is not the case due to guilt, placed upon the abused spouse, by the abuser. In cases such as these, there should be no question as far as the custody of the child(ren), they should not be exposed to the abuser. It should be mandatory for the abuser to seek professional help, for the abused spouse and children, whether witnessing or receiving abuse to also receive therapy, and only then for the possibility of the abuser to be reunified with the children, upon all parties receiving the treatment needed. Abusers, should not have rights to the children they abused, or subjected to witnessing abuse, only because they created the child(ren).
