This is one of my favorite books - a hard thing to say, considering I kind of feel like I'm being a horrible mother and choosing a favorite kid when it comes to choosing a favorite book - but from the very first sentence, this book gripped me. It's very character-driven book, a book in which you feel you get to know the protagonists, but at the same time, they remain entirely their own, they're never transparent... they're people. There's also something so tremendously beautiful about the language he uses which makes this book a pleasure to read. It's thoughtful and sad and just gorgeous - I highly, highly recommend it.
