An absolutely riveting yet revolting look into the life of "Lester Ballard", a "Child of God" as are we all. This book is slim and very, very grim. McCarthy's lyrical genius is always on display as one is forced to watch Ballard from a distance, creating in the reader a slightly sympathetic feel for an errant monster.
